The Kachin Independence Army said it shot down the helicopter in response to airstrikes. Meanwhile, Germany has joined a number of countries in condemning the junta’s treatment of journalists.
A leading Myanmar rebel group said it shot down a military helicopter after returning fire on Monday.
An official from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) — one of the country’s most powerful ethnic factions — said it struck back after airstrikes by the military near the northern town of Momauk.
“The military council launched airstrikes in that area since around 8 or 9 this morning… using jet fighters and also fired shots using a helicopter — so we shot back at them,” the KIA’s information department head, Colonel Naw Bu, said. He would not comment on what weaponry was used to bring the chopper down.
The KIA in Kachin state near the border to China has been in conflict with Myanmar’s military rulers for decades, seeking an independent state, with the conflict largely unconnected to February’s coup.

ကချင်ပြည်နယ် မိုးမောက်မြို့နယ်တွင် ကချင်လွတ်လပ်ရေး တပ်မတော်(KIA)နှင့် ဖြစ်ပွားနေသည့် တိုက်ပွဲအတွင်း လာ ရောက်ပစ်ခတ်သည့် စစ်တပ်၏ တိုက်ခိုက်ရေး ရဟတ်ယာဉ်မှာ ပစ်ချခံရသဖြင့် ပျက်ကျသွားခဲ့သည်။
မိုးမောက်မြို့နယ်အတွင်းရှိ မြို့သစ်၊ ကုန်းလော၊ ဆီဟတ်ကျေးရွာများအနီးတွင် ယနေ့မနက် ၈ နာရီမှစပြီး စစ်တပ်က တိုက် လေယာဉ် ၂စင်း၊ တိုက်ခိုက်ရေး ရဟတ်ယာဉ်တစင်း သုံး၍ လေကြောင်းတိုက်ခိုက်မှုများ ပြုလုပ်နေရာ ယင်းရဟတ် ယာဉ် အား KIA က ပစ်ချလိုက်ခြင်း ဖြစ်သည်။
KIA ၏ သတင်းနှင့် ပြန်ကြားရေး တာဝန်ခံ ဗိုလ်မှူးကြီး နော်ဘူက “၁၀နာရီ မိနစ်၂၀ ဝန်းကျင်လောက်မှာ ပစ်ချလိုက်တာ မှန်ပါတယ်။ အဲဒီနေရာက တိုက်ပွဲဖြစ်တဲ့နေရာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ၈ နာရီကျော် ၉ နာရီလောက်တည်းက စစ်ကောင်စီဘက်က လေကြောင်း တိုက်ခိုက်မှု လုပ်နေတာ။ Jet Fighter တွေနဲ့ လာပစ်တယ်။ Helicopter Gunship နဲ့လည်း လာပစ်တယ်။ အဲဒါကို ခုခံပြီးမှ ပစ်လိုက်လို့ အခုလို ထိမှန်သွားတာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်” ဟု ပြောသည်။
ယင်းတိုက်ခိုက်ရေး ရဟတ်ယာဉ်မှာ မိုးမောက်မြို့နယ် ကုန်းလောကျေးရွာ နမ့်ဆန်ချောင်းအနီးရှိ လယ်ကွင်းထဲသို့ ပျက်ကျသွားပြီး မီးလောင်ကျွမ်းနေသည်ဟု မျက်မြင်တွေ့သည့် ဒေသခံများထံက သိရ သည်။
“လေယာဉ်အမြီးကို ထိပြီး ပျက်ကျတာ။ မီးခိုးတွေ အူနေတာပဲ။ ကုန်းလောရွာဘက်မှာ ကျတယ်။ ဒီဘက်မှာက မနက် တည်းက ပစ်ခတ်သံတွေ ညံနေတာ။ လက်နက်ကြီးတွေနဲ့လည်း တရစပ် ပစ်နေတယ်။ အခြေအနေ မကောင်းဘူး” ဟု မျက်မြင်တွေ့သည့် ဒေသခံတဦးကပြောသည်။
စစ်တပ်၏ တိုက်ခိုက်ရေး ရဟတ်ယာဉ်ကို ပစ်ချလိုက်သည်မှာ KIA ၏ တပ်မဟာ (၅) လက်အောက်ခံ တပ်ရင်းများ ဖြစ်ပြီး မည်သည့် လက်နက်အမျိုးအစားဖြင့် ပစ်ခတ်လိုက်သည်ကိုမူ ထုတ်ဖော်ပြောဆိုခြင်းမရှိပေ။
ယခုနောက်ပိုင်းတွင် စစ်တပ်က တိုင်းရင်းသား လက်နက်ကိုင်တပ်ဖွဲ့များအား မြေပြင်ထိုးစစ်ထက် လေကြောင်းပစ်အားကို သုံးကာ တိုက်ခိုက်မှု ပိုမိုပြုလုပ်နေရာ တိုင်းရင်းသားလက်နက်ကိုင်များကလည်း လေကြောင်းရန် ကာကွယ်ရန် ပွိုင့် ၅ အမျိုးအစား လေယာဉ်ပစ်စက်သေနတ်ကြီးများ အပြင် လက်နက်မှောင်ခိုဈေးကွက်တွင် ဝယ်ယူရရှိနိုင်သည့် တရုတ်နိုင်ငံ ထုတ် ပခုံးထမ်း လေယာဉ်ပစ်လက်နက် FN-6 ကိုလည်း အသုံးပြုလျက် ရှိသည်။
